Broadview handles E911, and how to tell emergency personnel what location the phone extension is coming from, differently from most other systems. Broadview binds the IP address to the mailing address where the phones had been shipped to define the physical location for that extension.

Because we don’t have a static public IP address on the testing network, I called my project manager when installing the phones. He saw the phones come online, and immediately configured the system to recognize that public IP address as the site location. If I had a static IP address, then Broadview would have pre-configured the IP address to the phone before shipping them. Customers with dynamic IP have used DynDNS or similar solutions so that they don’t have to keep calling Broadview to update the configuration whenever the ISP changes the IP address.

The Administrator Interface

The interface is well-designed, but it looks dated and very static compared to RingCentral’s glossy and dynamic interface. The options and menus are laid out in a very straightforward manner, and in some ways, it is easier to navigate than RingCentral or Jive. The fact that it doesn’t look as nice as other platforms is a minor quibble. When I logged into the interface using the extension that was assigned administrator privileges, I could see “My Settings” and “Company Settings.” Company Settings let me create new users, assign extensions, create new locations, define auto-attendant, and define call routing rules. I could even switch to a different user and make changes to that user’s extension.I could also define default ring tones, determine hold music, and define how the call would be answered, such as call groups. I defined call groups by clicking and dragging users in to the group.

The User Interface

I could assign different behaviors based on the time, such as having my receptionist’s phone ring during business hours and auto-attendant to handle calls after hours. I could see the panel of buttons that match up to the memory keys on my phone, and configure the buttons from the Website.

I could create calling rules, such as directing a call to a co-worker’s extension if my phone rang a certain number of times. I could also use “Mobile Twinning” is a feature where the extension is assigned to ring both the desk phones and my cell phone at the same time. I could pick up the cell phone and instantly be connected to the incoming call without the caller realizing I am not actually on the desk phone.

I could also send voicemails to my email inbox as a .wav file, or just send a notification about the new voicemail. The Permission Profiles is an interesting feature, as it gives the administrator the ability to decide what calls employees can make, when they can make calls, and even how long they could be on the line. There is also a Hot Desk feature, where the employee simply logs into a physical phone with their extension, and automatically gets all of the calls, phone button settings, and messages to the new phone. This lets the employee move around the company, even across locations, and still be within reach.

Call auto-attendant, or virtual receptionist, company directory, and directory trees are more or less standard in all PBX offerings. Call recording is not supported (although there is an add-on option to record only inbound calls), nor is text messaging.

Smaller, Simpler System

Whether the SMB is setting up a VoIP platform for the first time or starting over and getting rid of the on-premise system, it’s worth taking the time to evaluate a hosted platform before buying. OfficeSuite from Broadview Networks is extremely easy to get started with, and offers administrators basic VoIP features with some advanced features thrown in.

While OfficeSuite Word, Sheets, PDF v13.6.45862 MOD APK Premium  can scale as necessary, considering that every single user has to be set up one at a time, it’s a little surprising there are no bulk user management tools. While initial setup is made easier by the fact that Broadview handles a lot of the work, I wished the interface offered bulk user management tools where administrators could apply changes to groups of users at once.

There are quite a few cloud-based VoIP systems, with similar setup processes and feature sets. The differences between the platforms often boil down to what may sound like minor quibbles. In the case of OfficeSuite, its advanced feature list didn’t quite match up with the massive offerings available in RingCentral or Jive Hosted PBX. However, OfficeSuite is much simpler and easier to use than RingCentral, perhaps because of its comparatively stripped-down interface. OfficeSuite gets 3.5 stars because its feature list does not compare with the other platforms, but I can easily see scenarios where OfficeSuite’s straightforward interface would be the better choice. Consider your exact needs and get the platform that delivers just what you need, whether that’s a solid performer like OfficeSuite Word, Sheets, PDF v13.6.45862 MOD APK Premium or a smorgasbord of features like the current Editors Choice RingCentral.
