Those that created the app only get paid through donations, there is no advertising, you don’t pay for the app unless you decide to give them a donation. Those that donate enable the creators of the application to continue for those that are not able to donate (for whatever reason). These donations enable the creators to continue to update the application, keep it running, pay for the computers, keep their knowledge up to date, and all the rest.
Using this application, downloaded from F-Droid, enables me to watch YouTube videos blocked to me because I refuse to pay Google with a credit card “to prove I am over 18” (even though I have had a Google account since I was 16yo- 24 years ago). It also blocks the adverts that bombard you on YouTube and doesn’t collect any data on my browsing habits or device details. The experience of watching YouTube on NewPipe reminds me of how it was to watch YouTube years ago.
I love the app. I love it so much that I am learning how to run android applications on my PC so I can use NewPipe all the time! I am not able to give a monetary donation, at present, so I rave about it to friends, family, and strangers, on every platform in every form!
There are a few bugs and glitches but this is because YouTube changes its codes to try and stop applications like this. Any bugs or glitches are sorted as fast as the creators can rectify them and keep the app running at an optimal level. Of course, because this app is FOSS you can always take the code and create a Fork rectifying the parts you don’t like, that is assuming of course you have the knowledge to code.
