Busy Interface

VSDC Video Editor Pro Crack interface is much improved since my last look, though it’s still more cluttered (with hundreds of tiny buttons) and less polished than CyberLink PowerDirector’s. The interface is pleasingly dark, but it’s not always clear where the tool you want resides: You often need to search for features buried behind a Properties panel accessed by a right-click. In general, the interface takes some getting used to and can be difficult to navigate.

The center of the program’s startup interface shows five square buttons under the Start Project Now group and eight round ones under Get to Know Top Features. New entries in this group include 360º/3D Editor, Motion Tracking, Edit the Beat, and AI Art Generator

The top menu switches the toolbar ribbon among Projects, Scenes, Edit, View, Editor, Export, Tools, and Activation modes. You can minimize the ribbon to show just the smaller editing toolbars. As in Microsoft Office apps, you can customize the small Quick Access toolbar at the very top, with the standard New, Open, and Save options, but also a Preview button.

Start Project Now choices include Blank Project, Slideshow, Import Content, Video Capture, and Screen Capture. You also get color correction, filters, 4K editing, blending, masking, chroma-keying, waveforms, 3D charts, and combining multimedia.

Media importing is now clearer, with the Add object button highlighted in green to direct your eye toward it. Tapping this lets you add any type of media the timeline supports, though I wish Video and Photo were closer to the top, which is dominated by Sprites, Shapes, and other less-commonly needed items. Small square green buttons for adding the more common types are to the left of the video preview window.

The interface is somewhat customizable, with a big preview panel at top center, Resources and Effects on the right, and Objects Explorer on the left. You can move the panels around, undock them, and select which buttons you want to appear in the various toolbars. One major lapse here is that there’s no full-screen video preview.

VSDC sports a standard video preview window above the timeline—something it didn’t always have in the past. You can even start playback with the spacebar. As you preview, the insertion point on the timeline now keeps in sync with what you’re watching. But playback isn’t as smooth as in competing programs, because it doesn’t use proxy files. Most apps use proxies in editing in place of the full-size video, to speed up working in the timeline.

The separate Cutting and Splitting window lets you preview a clip while cutting marked regions, which is handy and not offered by all video editing apps. Making the interface even more cluttered are Photoshop-like toolbars for adding and aligning shapes and text, located along the immediate left side and top of the preview window.

When you create a new project, you can specify the author, resolution, frame rate, and audio format. The Device drop-down menu offers presets for popular targets like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Vimeo. Next, you see the File’s sequence wizard window, which lists transitions for your movie’s clips. It also helpfully lets you rotate clips—I still see upside-down iPhone clips in some software, including VSDC. In the same window, you can add multiple clips.

Basic Video Editing

If you choose Import Content from the starting screen, you can only add one file at a time, but once you’re in a project, you can add multiple files at once. You can now also add multiple video clips directly to the timeline, either simply by adding them all to the main track (which the program terms layer) or via the File Sequence wizard, which can apply transitions, cropping, color presets, region cutting, and rotation. One-button rotation is handy and not always offered by video apps. The pre-edited clips are added to the timeline as a single sprite, which initially shows up as one track on the timeline, but double-clicking this expands to the full number of component tracks.

Drag-and-drop now works within the timeline. You can drag clips onto the video preview window and move them from track to track, but I had trouble moving a clip within a track from right to the beginning—I had to select the clip, set the cursor to the spot I wanted to move the clip to, and then choose the Move Blocks to Cursor Position or Set Block Order, which opens a small dialog with up and down arrows for moving the clips in the timeline. If you’re not trying to move a clip to the start, you can use drag-and-drop to rearrange its position.
